Understanding stakeholder perceptions towards Alternative Water Resources and Managed Aquifer Recharge in the Netherlands: Celebrating the first Dutch stakeholders workshop

What do stakeholders see as benefits/opportunities and risks/barriers of MAR and AWR in Netherlands and how can these be overcome?

One of the foundations of the MARCLAIMED project is the belief that scaling Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and Aquifer Water Recharge (AWR) depends on collaboration and co-creation with stakeholders. To this end, Acacia Water as one of the demo-sites leaders—following the lead of Spanish and Portuguese demo sites -hosted an interactive online stakeholder workshop, bringing together water boards, farmers, provinces, and researchers to explore opportunities and challenges in MAR.

During the online 1.5 hours online workshop, participants engaged in lively discussions. The first activity focused on identifying both the benefits/opportunities and risks/barriers of MAR solutions. In the second activity, participants ranked the risks and barriers and brainstormed ways to overcome them. Stakeholders expressed appreciation for being brought together in this way and for the chance to exchange knowledge, which we take as a great compliment to the MARCLAIMED project.

This workshop was once more a confirmation of the importance of co-creating and knowledge sharing. We’re excited to build on these insights and keep pushing MAR solutions forward. Let’s keep bridging gaps and shaping the future of sustainable water management together!
