Horizon EU Project MARCLAIMED is Officially Launched

The MARCLAIMED project, aimed at tackling water scarcity challenges across Europe, is officially launched with its kick-off meeting held in Barcelona on February 20-21. This gathering marked the initiation of the project’s activities, bringing together a consortium of 12 partners dedicated to finding innovative solutions to pressing water issues.
During the kick-off meeting, partners introduced their future activities to be implemented over the three years, sharing insights and ideas on how to effectively collaborate and identify innovative solutions to mitigate today’s pressing issues of water scarcity and water stress.
The MARCLAIMED project, led by CETAQUA, is responding to the urgent need for enhanced decision-making tools in the face of looming water scarcity. With Catalonia facing its worst drought in a century, the MARCLAIMED EU project promises to mitigate water challenges by implementing methodologies across three demo sites in Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands. These sites will focus on managed aquifer recharge, groundwater modelling and monitoring, climate change predictions, and water treatment technologies.
The project’s main outcome, the MARCLAIMED Integrated Decision Support Tool (IDST), will provide solutions to tackle existing and emerging threats, supporting decision-making and adaptation policies. Additionally, MARCLAIMED will focus on social acceptance, engaging national and EU policymakers through a Community of Practice and defining EU MAR-lines as rules and guidelines to promote policy recommendations and boost the regulatory framework.
