Celebrating a Successful Water Projects Europe Event in Brussels
The MARCLAIMED project was broadly promoted during Water Projects Europe (WPE), held on 3 December as part of the Water Knowledge Europe brokerage event, organised by Water Europe at the Thon Hotel EU. The session, titled “From Alternative Water to Circular Solutions”, brought together leading EU-funded initiatives working on water resilience, circularity, and climate adaptation.
Together, the five projects, AWARD, RECREATE, CIRSEAU and BOOST-IN illustrated how pioneering demonstrations and systemic strategies can connect to drive the transition towards a Water-Smart Society and Economy, aligned with the goals of the EU Water initiative. The project collectively forming the AWR4CLIMATE cluster (Alternative Water Resources for Climate) to join forces and strengthen a successful collaboration.
The MARCLAIMED team played a central role in the event’s programme. Project Coordinator Sara Espinoza (Cetaqua) and Teresa Leitão (LNEC) presented the project’s vision and the progress made across its three demonstration sites, each representing a unique hydrogeological and climatic setting.
“Storing and reusing water is key, but we still lack an integrated approach,” reinforced Teresa Leitão “MARLCIAMED is uniting water utilities and authorities at the same table to talk, exchange information and build trust in alternative water resources.” Trust—between stakeholders, operators, and regulators—remains a cornerstone for the deployment of AWR solutions across Europe.
Franck Le Gall (EGM) contributed to the high-level panel discussion, offering a systems perspective on digital integration, data sharing, and the legislative and financial challenges linked to AWR implementation. His intervention echoed one of MARCLAIMED’s core objectives to create a unified approach to data exchange and operational support across demonstration sites.
The success of Water Projects Europe 2025 demonstrates the power of collaboration across projects, sectors, and disciplines. MARCLAIMED, together with its partner initiatives, showed how technology, circularity, governance, and climate adaptation can come together to create scalable solutions for Europe’s evolving water challenges.
