The discussion centered on Case Study 1, where treated wastewater is used for Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) to replenish the crucial Baix Llobregat aquifer.

Facing significant water stress in the Llobregat River basin, this initiative aims to improve the resilience of Barcelona’s water system, increase groundwater resources, and foster public trust in reclaimed water as a sustainable, long-term solution beyond drought periods. The project also explores establishing dynamic tariffs for reclaimed water use.
