Advancing Water Resilience in the Llobregat Basin: MARCLAIMED Hosts its Third Stakeholder Workshop

The MARCLAIMED project successfully held its third stakeholder workshop to continue strengthening trust in reclaimed water as a key solution for water resilience in the Llobregat river basin.

Organised in collaboration with Aigües de Barcelona, the session brought together members of the Community of Practice to discuss ongoing challenges and opportunities related to the use of high-quality reclaimed water to support the region’s aquifers.

As part of the workshop, participants visited the project’s recharge ponds, which play a crucial role in supplying the Vall Baixa and Llobregat Delta aquifer with regenerated water. The visit was guided by Victoria Colomer from the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua and Joana Pérez Gomà from CUADLL, who explained how these infrastructures contribute to enhancing groundwater availability and ensuring long-term water security.

Stakeholders also toured the Baix Llobregat Water Reclamation Facility (ERA), operated by Aigües de Barcelona. This advanced facility produces high-quality reclaimed water that supports both environmental restoration efforts and the wider strategy for integrated water resource management in the territory.

The workshop fostered an open exchange of insights, experiences, and expectations among participants – an essential component of MARCLAIMED’s mission to co-create solutions that reinforce public confidence in reclaimed water as a safe, reliable, and sustainable resource.
