MARCLAIMED Open Day: discover solutions for water resilience in Comporta

Join us on 29 October 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00, at the Comporta Wastewater Treatment Plant in Portugal to explore the MARCLAIMED case study and its results.

Organised by the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) and Águas Públicas do Alentejo (AgdA), the Open Day welcomes water professionals, the school community and anyone interested in innovative solutions for sustainable water management.

MARCLAIMED explores how Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) using Alternative Water Resources (AWR) can help address water scarcity, protect ecosystems and strengthen the resilience of water supply systems in a changing climate. The project supports the integration of these approaches into river basin management and drought and water scarcity management plans.

The Open Day will showcase this approach in practice, with a particular focus on the work carried out at the Comporta case study.

Throughout the morning, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover the project’s progress and results, including the work of its Community of Practice.
  • Join technical visits to the wastewater treatment plant and take part in selected experimental activities underpinning the project.
  • Participate in serious games designed to encourage collective learning and discussion about sustainable water management.

The event offers an opportunity to connect research with practice and exchange knowledge on protecting ecosystems and making better use of water resources.
